German industries are increasingly showing interest in the use of natural fibres for technical-textile applications; at the same time, both cultivation and processing capacities of fibre crops in Germany are plummeting.
This comprehensive study examined the overall situation of the German natural fibre industry and, in addition to the current scale of agricultural cultivation and fibre production/processing, also looked at the potential of new technologies.
The results were discussed in workshops that brought together experts from the sector itself as well as relevant political stakeholders. The fruitful exchange yielded conclusions and specific recommendations for action/policies to organise and deliberately support a successful German natural fibre market.
